Lots more of that throughout the book. I understand the setting is a different culture and a different time era... but surely there was no honor, even then, in pursuing a 15 yr old virgin girl, taking her to bed without ever meeting her parents and with no intention of marriage.... how can you get past the ick factor of all that? Just so gross. In the tv series, these things are alluded to and may not rest well with the viewer, but the acting and the filming, sets a gloss over everything... and much is left behind closed doors (ie intimate scenes etc). The tv series does a much better job of depicting the story as a true love story between people of a similar age range, not as an icky deflowering of a naive teen by a grown man. As far as the writing, either the book was poorly written in the author's native Turkish, or the translation to English is a poor depiction. Either way, this is no "great literary novel. " I could barely get past the first several pages once I realized my error.
