Hai Qing (Chen Yan Ming) is a young, single man who dreams of becoming an art student. One day, he goes for a swim at a local pool and sees the most beautiful man he has ever seen, a budding young marketing director named Yan Fei (Wang Ting Yun). Too shy to approach Yan Fei, Hai Qing uses his mobile phone to secretly take photos of the object of his affections. However, soon after, the two men get talking – and form an instant bond. Sparks fly and – despite the fact that Yan Fei already has a boyfriend, he gives Hai Qing his telephone number. Fate intervenes, however, and an ill-timed intervention from a swimming coach sends Hai Qing's mobile spinning out of his hands…and into the water. One of the subtler strengths of "Never Look Away" is the canny evocation of a war-weary, defeated population who did not experience communism as a revolution but a substitution. Seeband is determined to stymie his daughter's relationship with the penniless artist, but fails: They marry and with Kurt finding the "Soviet realist" school of art — the only one in town — increasingly intolerable, they eventually head west.

Cat's kidnappers identify themselves as FBI agents, desperate for hers and Vincent's help to save a fellow agent that has been taken by terrorists. Cat doesn't believe them and escapes, just as Vincent arrives to save her. They agree to help rescue the FBI agent, in exchange for Vincent's exoneration of Curt Windsor's murder.
